i just came back from my first ever girugamesh concert! it was SO awesome. i don't know how to describe it but it was SO good and i just have to go again. it was at Liquidroom in Ebisu so it was pretty near to where i'm staying.. about 6 stops and 13minutes by train, and maybe another 5-8 mins walk from the station. before today i wasn't -that- excited about the girugamesh concert for some strange reason, i mean i knew i was going to watch my favourite band play and this was the reason i had the idea of going to japan for exchange, but i kinda fell out of jrock since i came to japan and i even thought i'd just go this once for the experience and maybe not go anymore, since it's a hassle to get tickets and travel and stuff. but after this concert, i think i'm hooked. i seriously seriously wanna see them play again. anyway i'm like half deaf now and have this ringing sound in my ear.

it was horribly cold and rainy today and i brought um... 9000 yen, alien card, suica (train) card, atm card and concert ticket. the line-up today was HIGH and MIGHTY COLOUR, Kenken of INVADERS, Cocobat and finally girugamesh. i had to sit through three bands whom i didn't have a clue about and neither did i like any of their music very much. i was just annoyed they took so long for all their songs, made me deaf and made my feet ache. Cocobat was the worst. first, their music sucked and they were so noisy with no musical sense at all, second they were OLD and third GOSH three out of the four of them were half naked! DO NOT WANT. the crowd was mainly girls, with a bunch of crazy guys who were just passionately headbanging away to everything and it didn't help that i could smell them. blah. well that said, i probably stunk at the end of girugamesh's performance too anyway. the girl fans could get pretty eyebrow raising too, like some were perfectly fine with swishing their hair around crazy-type when they were the only ones doing it.

in any case i survived cocobat cos i coudln't let them defeat me. i swear Cocobat was put there in the line-up right before girugamesh as the final test of faith for real girugamesh fans... that in order to attain enlightenment one must first endure pain and suffering. and lo and behold right after that we the resilient fans were rewarded with GIRUGAMESH!! i was in the second row and i made sure i was in a good position to visually absorb all of girugamesh, satoshi in particular, when they finally did come on. just before they came onto stage, a bunch of girls in the front row squatted down, whipped out their mirrors and make up kits and started adjusting their makeup. LOL. making sure they were prepared in case satoshi caught a glimpse of them.

the crowd went crazy when they finally came on stage. suddenly the room seemed so much more packed and everyone started screaming and jumping. and haha none of which happened when the previous bands were on. especially not Cocobat - no one even bobbed their heads out of courtesy. everyone was just standing still and staring. i was tapping my foot. girugamesh trashed the previous bands in presentation, music, showmanship, LOOKS etc. espeically satoshi. i always knew satoshi was really cute and stuff, but when he actually came onto stage and i actually saw him live like just 5m infront of me i nearly died and went to heaven. he looked awesomely cool live. his skin was perfect, hair was perfect, eyeshadow and stuff and he just looked so good. i swear photos do him NO justice, not even the coolest photos which i saved on my ipod. he didn't look that short or stunted in real life either, which i was starting to get the impression from recent lives and stuff. either that or i'm just getting used to the idea of how small japanese guys can get from the 2 months and counting i've been living here. -anyway-, he was really cool. girugamesh is not a very visual band, they kinda look like themselves and you probably wont' get a shock if you saw them without makeup on. i think their makeup is considered minimal compared to uh... MUCC or uh Kamijo.

anyway girugamesh performed 5-6 of their later songs. i remember breakdown, evolution, barricade, border, smash!! and i forgot the rest. hahha oooops. long time no listen. i never particularly liked any of these new songs, and in fact i was starting to swing more towards MUCC although i still had this soft spot for girugamesh given how long i loved them in the past, but when i actually heard these songs live it sounded so good. so good compared to the previous bands. so well coordinated. it was like these songs were just made to be played live. i started liking them. it wasn't a long performance cos there were a total of 4 bands so each one just played a few songs. i have a feeling girugamesh was just there as a favour to make sure the previous bands get some publicity. bah. but they have great music and great showmanship. throughout their performance i had such a great workout - screaming away, jumping up and down for every up-beat song, repeatedly pounding my fists into the air it was so fun. i didn't really headbang cos it looks kinda weird to me, but i kinda swayed with the crowd anyway. ryo was perpetually smiling like crazy while playing the drums. dimi said he looked like the cat from alice in wonderland with his perpetual crazy smile and puffy hair. satoshi kinda cried during the ballad.. i'm not sure what song that was but i'm guessing it's a pretty new song (edit: crying rain! <--(awesomez) cos i've never heard it before but some people were singing it so... he just stood there with this pained expression as he let the last syllable of the song trail off... then standing straight with his head lowered he started shaking.. kinda with his fists clenched and eyes pressed shut. anyway, i thought it looked like the most beautiful scene for awhile, though it felt a little too emotional given the rock concert setting BUT I LOVE U SATOSHI.

oh my gosh i finally got to see my favourite band live. the first live in tokyo. the best band ever! and right after that, i knew that this was definitely my favourite band. and on top of that satoshi is really really so cute - that was completely unexpected. my eyes were glued onto him the entire concert, except the occasional glance at ryo, ni and shuu because i knew i had to *at least* check them out a little in person. but i'm going to sleep a happy girl tonight. i'll definitely try to get tics for their one man next year in january. ^_^

anyway, i spent quite a bit on merchandise XD:

here are the goods. the shirt ws3000¥, the muffler-towel was1500¥ and the wristband was 1200¥. so i essentially spent a grand total of 5700¥ on merchandise. >_< but i take comfort in the fact that this is probably the only band that i'm gonna splurge on in japan.

doesn't the design kinda remind you of coca cola? hahaha. i hope they don't get sued for copyright >.<

hello! touched down in narita around 8.30 on monday morning 14 september 2009. a group of waseda students from the niji no kai club (or circle as they call it there) (which is essentially a welcome-newcomers club) picked us up from the airport and sent us on our way on the narita express to tokyo (slightly less than 3000 yen, ~S$35). at tokyo station, another separate group of niji no kai students picked us up at the station interchange to transfer to the JR line (yamanote line) to take down to takadanobaba station which is where our dorm is located. coincidentally, all the singapore students in waseda who are staying in nishi-waseda dorm were on the same flight as weifeng and i so we conveniently met each other at the airport. after checking into our dorm they took us around a little for lunch and to the 100yen shop to get some essentials to furnish our room.

speaking of which, the nishi-waseda dorm rooms are actually really nice and clean, its the newest dorm for waseda and probably just over a year old. however, as all other rooms in tokyo are, the rooms here are actually quite small and claustrophobic. i was fortunate to be assigned to a corner single-room which is quite a bit larger than most rooms and it's a really nice room which comes with a fridge, closet, bed and bedsheets and blankets, desk, lamp and toilet with shower and bath tub. the worst part about having my own room is that i have to clean up after myself, and the main problem with me is that i shed too much hair and i'm allergic to dirt. i *hate* dirt. it's like the princess and the pea story, but this time it's esther and the grain of sand on the floor. haha. i also took half an hour to make my bed cos i kept getting the order of the bedhseets wrong, and in the end after making it it was sitll wrong. i stuffed my comforter and winter blanket (thinking it was another comforter) into the same bedsheet and when i found out later i was too exasperated to do anything about it. haha. jialat.
more about my dorm room... )

streets of tokyo are surprisingly older than i expected them to be. i expected to see modern futuristic buildings (think neo genesis evangelion) but in fact many of the buildings around the area i'm in look pretty old with some signs of aging, streets are not as clean as singapore, but not gross or anything. the very pleasant weather makes everything all better. right now it's the kind of weather in which you can choose to wear or not to wear a light cardigan and yet feel comfortable.

well, that's about all i want to write about for now. been terribly busy with moving in, settling my exchange stuff and orientation stuff that i've barely had time to myself.

currently thoroughly enjoying my stint at amica law. it first started with an "oh crap i have to endure 10 more weeks of this?" but i've come to realise how wonderful this firm is. work culture wise. quality of work wise. people wise. i think this is the kind of law firm i want to join in future. something small, chummy, comfortable, minimal formalities... actually i didn't realise how different the work culture here was as compared to other law firms until the NUS interns started telling me about drew, tcmp, wongp, lee&lee etc. it's completely different, not necessarily in a bad way because it all boils down to personal preference in the end. and the three NUS people i've met so far at amica are really nice people and surprisingly accomodating.

oh HAHA and there's this awesomely cool young lawyer at amica. probably one of the most approachable ones around. he has this air of confidence bordering on arrogance about him, looks good has money has brains has a witty sense of humour is tall oozes testosterone and is basically what you will call indecently over-achieved. oh he also styles his hair really nicely. he's the kind of guy you would run up to to get an autograph. but by the same token, too suave therefore too intimidating for my liking. so cool, i didn't know such perfect beings existed in singapore. xD

and here's something random to ponder over which was the subject of debate over the boss' birthday-cum-pot-luck party. is it STRAW-BREE or STRAW-BEHRIE? i had this debate with one of the nus interns because he insisted it was STRAW-BREE. according to him, "do you say BUH-BREE or BUH-BEHRIE?".  but! strawberry is derived from berry, so it should thus be STRAW-BEHRIE! okay very pointless debate but i still strongly believe it should be STRAW-BEHRIE.

have to scoot off for dinner soon. seeya! ^_^

what can i say. IP law was fun!!! IP law summer term is killer (try at own risk) but it was FUN. i love george wei. exams this thursday good luck!! :D

apparently george wei was the dude who interviewed me for entrance to law school, and well i guess i owe my admission to him. but as far as i remember, it was rather shameful indeed and i have no intention of reminding him about it.. hahaha.

Some Taiwanese star being accused of cheating a girl's feelings for 2 months.

"The young girl said that Lo appeared to be quite liberal on their very first conversation; he even mentioned that he was "very good at it". When being asked what he was good at, Lo replied in subtlety that "he could bring her to meet Jesus"."

that's a first. his humour is unbelievable.
